Fire Prevention

The mission the Fire Prevention & Life Safety Education Division is to protect the citizens, business owners, and visitors against the loss of life and property through engineering, enforcement and education.  Fire prevention conducts plan reviews for adequate fire protection, fire lanes and emergency equipment access; performs acceptance testing of built-in fire protection systems; maintains pre-fire plans, issues and controls operational permits, and conducts occupancy inspections, annual inspections and routine inspections.

Annually, the Department conducts over 1,000 inspections with a 99% violation correction rate and issues over 1,600 permits.  The Division is staffed by a deputy chief, a full-time fire inspector, a part-time fire inspector that is also the life safety educator, and two volunteer fire inspectors.  In addition, all career staff members are certified to a minimum of Fire Inspector I and conduct company inspections of multi-family dwellings.
