Where access to or within a structure or an area is restricted because of secured openings or where immediate access is necessary for life-saving or fire-fighting purposes, the fire code requires a key box to be installed in an approved location. The key box must be a Knox Box® 3200 Series and contain keys to gain access as required by the fire code official.
The key box provides for non-destructive emergency access to the property or non-emergency access to the property with the property owner’s permission. Property owners are notified any time the key box is accessed. Master keys located in each fire apparatus are secured in a Master Key Retention System that requires individual authorization codes to access the master key. Order a Knox Box .
