The Fire & Life Safety Education program in Mt. Lebanon began in 1987. The program was developed as a joint effort between the fire department and school district educators and administrators. The program has evolved over the years to become the most extensive school fire and life safety education program in the State of Pennsylvania.
The entire program is designed to be an age appropriate, comprehensive curriculum where each lesson builds on the previous. Firefighters teach two or three classes to each grade level about one week apart. The program addresses key fire and life safety issues at the proper developmental cycle of the child. Great effort is made to deliver serious messages in a non-threatening manner while imparting lifelong lessons that will serve our children well throughout their lifetime.
